There’s still shit scattered on the living room floor, the office is full of stuff and the main floor needs paint. Garage sale here, immunizations there and meetings still needed to be had to pass the torch.
WTF??!!
I am far from a super calm individual. I am high energy and high intensity. I have learned how to control these emotions over the past several years with meditation and red wine… but this is something else! History has shown that there is no better kick in the ass then a deadline. Well… Our deadline is October 31st at noon! I’ve painted many a house. It’s what I’ve done for the better part of two decades. I know that it will come down to D Day to get it done. I have never had to paint my house, pack my stuff, travel back and forth to Grand Prairie for needles, finish up with the different boards that we sit on and… visit with those closest to us all within ONE WEEK! As Patty researches her ass off and actually plans the step by step epic adventure that we are about to embark on, I write… It’s human nature to undertake challenge. That’s why we are here. I already feel a sense of calm. Maybe it’s the wine. Told you. I’ve learned.
WERE YOU EVER READY?…
To leave home?
How about purchase your new property?
Were you ready to fall in love?
Get married?
Have children?
Me neither. You’re never READY but you ADAPT and as it turned out was the best decision you ever made.
Of course I’ll be ready.
Patty is ready and the kids are ready.
I have to be ready.
Just not right now…

Hi. I’m wondering how you dealt with the real estate agent when they saw your house and said “You need to upgrade this counter top to granite, or change that paint colour, or replace that shower.” ?
There are some fancier houses that have gone up in our neighbourhood since we built there and she told us “Well you’ve got to keep up with the Joneses”. That drove me up the wall. I think she’s more interested in a fatter commission honestly.
How much work did you commit to putting into the house before putting it up for sale?
Hey Dennis! It was actually a very unique situation. We had not planned to jet this quick. I would slowly do Renos all winter and put our house on the market in the spring. Sans realtor. Patty and I have been licensed realtors and would not have required their services. Here is the cool part. A very nice yooung couple found out our home may be for sale and long story short, our adventure begins early. I dictated what I would finish and what I wouldn’t. It’s a different market in small town northern AB than the big city. I know what you’re saying though. The realtor wants to sell your house quick and for top dollar. Thus requires it to stand out. This was true here as well.
How exciting!! This has been a dream of our’s, and we plan on doing that within the next few years. Looking forward to reading all about it. Good luck!
