The attention that has been brought to our upcoming journey has been nothing less than amazing. On one hand, we are humbled that we have been chosen as the ones to focus on. We truly don’t consider ourselves any more special than any other family that is doing or has done this.
The flip side has us READY for the responsibility for which we have been singled out. To help bring awareness to the possibilities and to squash the negative aspects of travel such as danger, difficulty and one being afraid to take the leap.
Preparation for the trip has been our steepest hill to climb so far and we are still climbing. With 16 days left until we are without a home and still a tonne of stuff to pass on to others and an entire main floor to paint, I sit here wondering if it’s the best idea to take time to write this short blog.
Patty will enjoy her last day at work for a while, today. It is only that we choose to go on our expedition that she has obviously decided to take this leave of absence and like we have both said, the work really begins now! I continue to pick away at our homes interior to get it ready for the new owners, take our unneeded belongings out to the garage and still tend to my career in the supplemental insurance industry. I show gratitude every day that I am fortunate enough to have worked my way up as an independent contractor, with a company who’s platform allows me to both have a hand in the funding of our trip and continue to run my business while we are traveling.
The media has been eating this up. I just got off the phone with our next media spot which will be live tomorrow morning at 8:09 on 770CHQR out of Calgary. They mentioned that the real human interest story is not the selling of the home, belongings and jumping on a plane but instead is…
Giving up LIFE.
It was a quick little call to confirm our interview so I had no time to ask what that meant but it is kind of eating at me. Giving up life? I hardly consider doing what we are doing GIVING UP. I may have taken the comment out of context and will follow up with it in the morning. Until then, I have included a couple of media links of what we have been involved with so far. The Huffington Post Canada did a spot with us as well as Global Edmonton’s “Family Matters” which both will air later this week.

Hi, I’m currently in Alberta, but was originally from the Philippines. I have a little family of my own. It was a dream of my husband and I to travel. I am not sure that we can do it now with 2 boys (2yo and 0). However, when I read about your family, it gave me a tiny bit of hope that we can do it, too.
So, I have a huge bet on you guys and the life you are about to take. If ever your family decides on going to the Philippines, I may have some tips for you.
I’m excited for your journey!
Thanks for the uplifting comment! We are most definitely going to spend time in the Philippines. I have a friend that owns a scuba diving shop on Siquijor Island. Any tips and suggestions would be much appreciated! YES YOU CAN do this! Its more doable then alot of people realize. Good Luck!
Geoff
I have yet to visit Siquijor. My friends from Vancouver have recently been there and blogged about it here: https://mynextdeparture.com/siquijor-by-motorbike/
